Swatches and Review: Blackbird Cosmetics Loose Matte Shadows

blackbird (2 of 7)

I’m a bit of a desert rat. I’ve grown up around red rock landscapes since I was a kid, and being a pretty huge nature nerd I like iron-y earth underneath my fingernails, ravens circling overhead, and miles of rusty slot canyons to climb through. No doubt, this probably informed my love earth tones. These are the colors, textures… hell, even smells of my childhood:

It should come as no surprise , then, that I have been eyeing earth-toned mattes from Blackbird Cosmetics since it opened at the end of June. When Maleah recently asked if I would be willing to give her shadows a try, I was PSYCHED! I’ve been on a glitter-and-sparkle binge with all of my indies recently (Shh, shhh Alkahestry, it’s ok, I still love you!), but have been craving some good, grounded mattes in some fabulous colors. Full disclosure: She generously provided me a sample pack of her shadows for free, and I am very happy to provide a really honest review of them in return… and I have to be up front in saying that I think these shadows are totally fab!

Come with me, wee ones, let us get a closer look!

Swatches and Review: Femme Fatale Duochromes

DSC_0532

Duochromes are the gateway shadow drug of the indie world. Those of us who love makeup have our mainstream favorites, of course– I adore Laura Mercier shadows for their smoothness and blendability, and many of Tarte’s Amazonian clay shadows are creamy and pigmented beyond belief. But there isn’t much out there that is quite like a really good indie duochrome. And believe me, Femme Fatale Cosmetics has some really good indie duochromes. So you can imagine my excitement when my portion of a group buy arrived yesterday!!

Let’s take a closer look!

Polish Review: Femme Fatal Lunar Halo

DSC_0481

I finally have an indie nail polish to post about!! Eeee! It took a while to hop across several ponds, but my Femme Fatale polish order arrived this past week and everything is soooo beautiful. I’ll do a little post about each of them, but this one is Lunar Halo, a gorgeous beige with silver, blue, and green shimmer. It is natural enough that it’s wearable in every-day life, but the iridescent glitter makes me feel like a princess.

Swatches and Review: Comparing Fyrinnae Greek Goddess and Charm blushes

DSC_0419

“It’s summer,” you say to yourself, “Where the hell are my bright blushes?!” Before toying around with Greek Goddess in my look yesterday, this was the thought that went through my head. Never fear, here is a comparison between two very bright, but very different pink blushes that are perfect for looking exquisitely blush-y during these equally bright summer months: Fyrinnae Greek Goddess (featured in my last post) and Fyrinnae Charm (featured above).

Let’s get a closer look!

Review and Swatches: Shiro Custom Gloss, Dolce Shiro! Also, Darling Girl Super Star serum!

DSC_0188

Guys. Guys. This week seemed really long. Has anybody else noticed? But as long as it was, when I got home on Wednesday my CUSTOM SHIRO GLOSS WAS WAITING FOR ME. And that was a highlight.

Shiro lip glosses are officially the only lip glosses I can stand. Typically the slip and stickiness slowly drives me insane as it gets on my clothes and face and personal items, because I live every day life with the genteel poise of a crabby two-year-old… but the wizardry of Caitlin’s lip gloss prevents this from happening. It’s lip goop like all glosses are, but goop without the stick and somehow with shine and lasting power. I don’t know of another product I can easily compare it to? In some ways it’s a little similar to YSL glossy stains, I suppose, but they don’t seem to stain as much and YSL stains are a bit thicker/stickier.

I also received my Darling Girl order this week with the Super Star serum, so it was time to put that to work.
